Naori Priestly
I came across these amazing pin cushions via Amelias Magazine. They are made by Naori Priestly, a graduate of the RCA, and are just fantastic - Sit one of these lovely animals next to your sewing machine and you will probably get no work done as you will just be staring at your wonderful new pin cushion instead!

Rollup..Rollup...
This weekend, Bettyjoy braved the very wet and wintry weather and headed down to DQs in Sheffield to set up our stall at the Vintage Christmas Fair at DQs in Sheffield.
The event was a success and very busy, which was great, considering the bad weather, they were literally queuing to get in! There were about 40 stalls, selling a great range of vintage clothing, handmade goodies, glorious cupcakes, hairdressing etc. There was music and drinks too. The next one will be happening in the New Year, so if you want to get involved or come and see the great range of items on sale, then check out Sheffield Vintage, the organisers of the event. In the meantime, in case you missed it, here are a couple of the stalls there...
Bettyjoy Boutique...
... has briefly gone off-line but should be back in the next day or so (hopefully sooner). If you have any queries in the meantime, you can contact me at luciakempsey@yahoo.co.uk. Any orders placed in the last coupel of days will be shipped out tomorrow but if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me..
Beautiful Siberian Houses
This is a bit of a departure from my usual blogging of jewellery and homewares etc, but when i came across these pictures of wonderfully ornate very old wooden houses in Siberia on Materialicious I had to share them with you. I love architecture, especially old houses and wooden chalets and these are some really fine specimens, the wooden carving detail is just amazing! Apparently you can buy one of these old houses for about $200! You can see many more pictures on the Englishrussia site and the photographer's studio who took these wonderful shots is Vladstudio.

Talking 'bout a Resolution...
As the end of this year approaches I am starting to think about new years resolutions, my list has started the same way it does each year with resolutions that I regularly make and break - losing weight, drinking less, changing jobs, pushing myself to do more exciting/scary things ... but spurred on by ideas like craft 365 challenges etc my main resolution for 2009 is going to be to design a surface pattern each day for the whole of 2009 - thats quite a challenge and one I may not be able to keep but one I know I will enjoy - not like trying to make myself go jogging in the cold rain before work! ( I know I have seen a similar idea on another blog a while back where a very talented designer showcased a design a day that she had done with different themes for each month - but I cannot for the life of me find it at the moment - if you know the one I'm talking about, please let me know and i will add a link!)
Surface pattern is a form of design I adore and would one day like to make my career, although i think a lot of practice and improvement is required before i can reach that goal!
What are your New Year's resolutions for 2009?

Candice Wren
I was recently contacted by a talented young fashion designer Candice Wren who has recently set up her own business by the same name. Candice takes her inspiration from vintage lace, pretty perfume bottles and old botany books and prints her designs on handpicked Turkish pashminas and also has some lovely t-shirts and other printed clothing.

handmade christmas
Ive been full of festive spirit over the last weeks and made some decoration to our abode to jolly the place up. Excuse the photos - I don't know if its me or the camera but I don't seem to be able to take even remotely decent pics at the moment. Anyway you can get the gist of the handmadeness! Im quite proud of the tree and wreath - the stockings are a bit square-toed, but they will still fit a bar of choc and a satsuma in them!

Helena Carrington
If you are stuck for christmas/housewarming/birthday presents then look no further than Helena Carrington and her fantastic range of cushions and accessories featuring Helena's illustrations taking inspiration from foreign cities and travels. Helena was featured in the New Designers exhibition this summer after graduating from Norwich School of Art and Design. Norwich must be a hive of creative activity as I know of quite a few talented craft and design types from that neck of the woods - maybe I should pencil in a trip soon!

Les Petites Emplettes
When I was in San Francisco this Autumn I bought one of the lovely Paumes books - Atelier Des Filles 2, which showcases the work and workplaces of French female designers, craftspeople and artists. I haven't been able to put the book down since - it has so many wonderful pictures and creations. One of the designers featured in the book was Les Petites Emplettes, whose work you can see above. I love the neutral colors and simplicity of her style - using the traditional print blocks to create a very contemporary design and certainly not out of place in international design magazines - which is probably why she has been featured in many! Go check her wonderful work.
