My lovely new old globe

I have been wanting a black globe for ages, after seeing one on Etsy way back. I finally got myself this lovely vintage replogle globe from Ebay, I love seeing all the old names for the countries such as Indo-China and Rhodesia and the steamship routes across the globe.

Now I just need somewhere to put it and I need to stop spinning it with my eyes closed then pointing my finger randomly at the globe and deciding thats where I want to go on my next holiday, not sure that far north Russia , the middle of the Pacific Ocean or the wilds of Borneo are places I'd considered for my hols before but maybe the russian island of Novaya Zemyla is the next Thailand waiting to be discovered!

On the buses

I really really love these vintage bus roll graphics and am pining after one for our new house, but with finances pretty tight you can imagine my delight when I came across this fab tutorial by the ever fantastic GoGoAbigail. Elizabeth Demos - @ home

During my regular read of Decor8 blog I came across this absolutely wonderful moodboard creation by Elizabeth Demos. I was struck by the wonderful color combinations and use of the rustic old frame.  Elizabeth has recently opened an event planning business on top of an already very successful and wonderful looking looking vintage home store in Savannah.  Shops like @home make me wish I lived in America!  When I went to America last year I visited a few thrift stores and antiques/vintage places in Texas and they are well and truly heads and shoulders above our UK shops - there just seems to be so much quality vintage homewares/fashions etc on offer over there. After seeing the lovely vintage pattern coasters in my previous post, it got me thinking about my stashes of vintage knitting and sewing patterns and what to do with them.  I looked around on the internet and found some fantastic inspiration!  I do appreciate that some people believe that vintage patterns should be kept as they are and not be upcycled, but if the patterns are damaged or have pieces missing then I personally can see no harm in using them to make something new that will decorate your home and not be hidden away in a drawer unused.

A fine vintage

There is a plethora of great Vintage stores in Sheffield including Cow, Freshmans and Bang Bang Vintage who organise regular vintage fairs too.  Also don't miss The Front Parlour, an antique shop which stocks all kinds of jewellery, china, fabrics, books and clothing and ephemera.  I love having a root around in here for a pre war bargain or two!

Pretty Walls

I found this lovely image on flickr some time ago on pretty & quirky's flickr page I love the mix of prints and colors and the lovely sets of vintage tins are really sweet.  I've seen fabric displayed similarly before in embroidery hoops and in frames but I think i prefer it this way - I really love the simple but effective way of displaying pretty fabric.
